| The
Jasmine Awards are the perfume industry's
way of recognising expertise in the
world of journalism. Their aim is to
reward excellence in literary and visual
achievement in articles devoted to the
subject of fragrance. The awards were
started in France some twenty years
ago and introduced into the UK by the
Fragrance & Beauty Association of
Great Britain (FBA) in 1989, the first
awards being presented in 1990. |
| At
the annual Jasmine Awards ceremony the
perfume industry shows its appreciation
to the Beauty press for the efforts
it has made to acquire and communicate
this specialist knowledge. The awards
have become recognised as the most prestigious
in beauty journalism and have developed
from two original prize categories,
the Jasmine Literary Award and Jasmine
Visual Award, into eight prize categories:
|
-
The Jasmine Literary Award (in excess
of 800 words) : awarded for
an in depth piece of original journalism
demonstrating through its creativity,
substance and style the writer’s
knowledge and ‘feel’
for the subject. There are 2 categories - Magazine and News
Press. Prize £3000 cheque and a framed certificate.
-
The Jasmine Visual Award :
awarded for the best visual concept
supporting an article on fragrance.
Prize framed certificate
awarded to the team responsible.
-
The Jasmine 'Soundbite' (formerly
the Cameo Award) : a short piece
of writing - stylish, funky, ‘of
the moment’ which demonstrates
the writer’s understanding
of the subject and their own special
flair. The piece should be not less
than 300 words and should have a
maximum length of 800 words. There are 2 categories - Magazine and News Press. Prize
£600 cheque and a framed certificate.
-
The Jasmine Award for Best article
on Men's Fragrance : minimum
300 words. Prize £600 cheque
and a framed certificate.
- Best
Article in a Customer Magazine :
A new category to recognize the
number of entries from in-house
magazines such as Boot's, Harrods,
Harvey Nichols, airline publications
etc. Prize £600 cheque and
a framed certificate.
-
Best Practical Guide to Fragrance
: The best 'how to' article - how
to buy, what to wear, what suits
who. Prize £600 cheque and
a framed certificate.
- Best Website Feature on Fragrance : An original piece of work specifically designed, created, styled and written for a website. To enable our judges to evaluate an entry fully and properly against this criteria a screen grab, in its entirety, must be submitted.
As a result of this revised definition a fragrance feature that is a direct reproduction of a press article will not qualify for entry in this Award category. The feature can be of any length. A screen grab must be sent. The prize is a £600 cheque and a framed certificate.
|
| Each
judge is presented with all
articles on fragrance to read and mark.
They are unaware of the identity of
the writer. Their assessments are returned
to the Jasmine Awards office where marks
are collated and a shortlist compiled.
|
| Prior to the Awards ceremony,
the judges reconvene to read the articles
which have made it onto the shortlist.
Only at this point are the final winners
chosen. At the Awards ceremony each judge is invited to present
one of the prizes. |
| The
Jasmine Awards Committee also presents
lectures and workshops to assist beauty
journalists in learning more about the
subject and to write in greater depth
on the mystique and continuing fascination
of fragrance (click
